The map of mission locations makes planning a road trip incredibly easy, and I love how it weaves in the story of his defense of native rights. A truly inspiring read that brought California’s history to life for me.

I wasn’t sure what to expect from a road-trip book about missions, but the detailed maps really helped me follow Father Serra’s actual route. The section on his defense of native rights gave me a much deeper perspective than I’d ever gotten in school.

I finally got around to exploring the mission sites with this guide, and the section on Junipero’s defense of native rights really opened my eyes. The way it weaves his biography into each location makes the history feel alive.
