Ellie ★★★★★

I was skeptical a passport-sized book could offer real craft advice, but the essay from Xio Axelrod is dense with practical techniques for building characters from the ground up. The intro from Scribbler sets the tone nicely, and I've already tabbed half the pages for my current draft.

Daniel ★★★★★

Xio Axelrod's essay on character building is exactly what my drafting process needed—her specific breakdown of internal versus external motivations clicked for me right away. I've been applying her framework all week and my characters finally feel like real people.

Ruby ★★★★★

Xio Axelrod's essay on character building completely changed how I approach my protagonist's flaws and motivations. The way she breaks down backstory into usable layers made my latest draft feel alive for the first time.
