Sofia V. ★★★★★

The Cantor essay genuinely made me rethink how I approach historical fiction, and the intro from Scribbler sets a nice reflective tone. I’ve already dog-eared several pages for inspiration.

Violet V. ★★★★☆

Cantor’s essay on retellings is the real draw here—I read it in one sitting and it gave me a fresh perspective on rewriting familiar stories. The intro from Scribbler sets the tone nicely, though I wish the whole thing were a bit longer.

Aurora L. ★★★★☆

The intro from Scribbler and Cantor’s essay on retellings make for a solid, thoughtful read, though I wish the section were a bit longer. Still, it’s a nice compact look behind the scenes for anyone into historical fiction.
