The movable-type printing set was surprisingly easy for my 8-year-old to figure out, and we had ink everywhere within ten minutes. Seeing her face light up when she pressed her first character onto paper made the whole experience worth every penny.

I wasn’t sure if the papermaking kit would actually work, but my son managed to create a real sheet on his first try. The movable-type printing was a fun surprise too—it kept him engaged for over an hour.

The lift-the-flap book kept my kid glued for an hour before we even touched the printing kit, and the movable-type setup actually works—we stamped our own little notes. The firecracker decorations were a fun, safe finale that tied the whole history lesson together.
