Monroe’s journey hit me right in the chest, and the way the story weaves the ball games with the goodbye made it feel so real for little ones. My son asked about deployment afterward, and it opened a conversation I didn’t expect from a picture book.

My kids were really into the leaf-pile adventures and kept asking to play fetch after each reading. It handled the tough topic of deployment in a way that sparked good conversations without being too heavy for them.

The story of Monroe dealing with deployment felt really genuine and brought back my own memories, though I wish the book was a bit longer. The ball game scenes were a nice touch showing their bond before the separation.
